The Eyeless Seeing ~ Surrender the Way

Reflections from Solitude and Silence No. 16

Jun 11, 2018

Saying For Today: Even those closest to you, to them you will be a riddle unsolvable. You will be like the Wind one seeks to grasp, but cannot.

Surrendered

This is the sixteenth of the series of reflections arising from a month in silence and solitude; the musings invite the reader to explore the Truth for himself or herself. May the writer's reflections be windows to look in, or out, onto the vista of our one Beloved, our deepest, truest Self. Peace! Brian K

By surrendering all you see yourself to be, you are seen through your Union with Grace. There, then, is only one seeing. This seeing through the eyes of the Beloved ~ what Grace! what Grace! To lose yourself as an isolated, bounded sense of individuality, so to find yourself inside Love and as Love, how could you esteem this other than great Gain? Even our fear of relinquishing self into this transforming Fire of Presence, hints to us of the absolute Beauty awaiting us in the embrace of our Lover.

one must feel
the way for oneself
regardless of guidance by others

the practice
is challenging

the challenge
to allow a rest
beyond the challenge

to meditate, then,
give up meditation

to see
close
the eyes

Even surrounded by others on the Journey, you are still alone. Finally, you will come to seek refuge in no others. Your refuge will be only in the Unknown.

This aloneness will become more vivid, not less, the deeper you are drawn into the Ocean of All. A new Intimacy, older than time, will arise. You will lose and keeping losing any sense of a self.

And no one will know what you feel or know at any time, regardless of how you try to share it. Even those closest to you, to them you will be a riddle unsolvable. You will be like the Wind one seeks to grasp, but cannot. This may frustrate others, that will not be your responsibility. Some will be drawn to you, for the mystery you are, others will avoid you, though they will not know why. They may blame you, when this is a natural fruit of your choosing to be lived into and by this Grace.

You will come to lose your grasp on meditation, also, all so-call spiritual practice. You will be drawn into a simple rest that feels like doing nothing, you will feel for the walls to move the hands upon, to bound what you are doing. No walls, all gone. As others will not know you, you will not know what is happening, at any time, including when you stop to sit in Quietness. Your way will be so bright, to your natural reasoning all will appear darkness. You will walk, not knowing where you came from, where you are, where you are going toward.

The question is, "Are you willing to let this happen?" If 'Yes,' then the way is ongoing surrender, loss of any claim to rights apart from your being within Everything. You would not even have a right to claim any right to spiritual enlightenment, liberation, salvation, whatever you now call it. You would admit you are a nobody, a nothing, and see your intoxication in Love opens the heart to Everyone, so what you are is only with Everything. You would realize your only place in this world, wherever you appear to be, is to open yourself as the cup the Beloved pours Itself into and out of, in compassion for the world. This, then, is known by those who have given themselves as a sweet surrender, though a sense of bitter loss may be within the way leading to this knowing of this pristine joy of giving oneself away, a self that never existed apart from the Beloved, anyway.

Again, "Are you willing to let this happen?" This willingness is not that anyone is fully surrendered in this manner. This willingness means the Way can begin by simply being willing to be willing. Willingness, then, is learned, is taught by the Way. You have given up even the right to claim to surrender yourself, for you do not have that power: Grace does!

If willing, good news! ~ you can rest, as you have given yourself into the benevolence of the Beloved. As said the Songwriter of Psalm 23, long ago, inviting us to be sheep in the care of the Good Shepherd...

He makes me lie down in plush pastures,
he leads me alongside quiet, calm waters.
